Together, we invite you to experience the thrill of Alternative Firings. Session 1 at Stoka Clay Studio In the first segment of your adventure, you'll create two vessels (max dimensions 12cm high, 10cm wide/deep), guided by the skilled hands and expertise of Stoka Clay Studio instructors. Session 2 at Beautiful Things by Jasmine Select your alternative firing experience from the options listed below, all are $70 each. Book directly at your create pot session. There needs to be a 30-day gap before your second experience, to allow for bisque firing to occur. Obvara Obvara is a 12th-century Eastern European technique that involves dipping a hot vessel into a fermented mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, followed by rapid cooling. This thrilling process creates unique and spectacular patterns with each dip. Hair and Feather Hair and Feather is a technique which involves carbonising feathers and other materials like hair, sugar, and woodchips on to your heated vessel. These materials create smoke patterns and carbon trails that remain as decoration once the pottery cools, instantly creating a stunning decorative vessel. Saggar The Saggar technique involves assembling combustible materials like dried banana peels, copper wire, and soluble salts in an aluminium package, followed by a quick low-temperature firing. Once unwrapped, colours of abstract patterns slowly emerge on the vessel before your eyes.
