Service Description

Instagram sensation, Moon Do Bang creator Mr. Moon, Byung Sik, will be gracing my Studio in the Tweed Hinterland. How lucky are we! this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Mr. Moon owns and operates MoonDoBang, located in Yeoju, South Korea. He is a hard working, prolific ceramic artist who claims he is “most comfortable behind the pottery wheel”, and loves sharing his work with others. He first touched clay in high school and he developed a passion for the practice, and for the love of form that led him to open his own business at the age of 26. Moon Do Bang loosely translates to Moon’s Pottery Shop. Hands-on Demo: During the 3-day hands-on workshop, Moon will share his methodology and techniques for throwing large jars, altered forms, and throwing off the hump. Mr. Moon will customize the structure of the class based on the needs and requests of the collective group. White Stoneware from Walkers will be offered for ease of use and availability. In this 3 day workshop participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from Moondobang with a heavy focus on perfecting large scale cylinders, and the techniques and approaches that are unique him. Each day will begin at 10am and end at 5pm. Lunch will be provided each day, and will be around 1pm. Simple vegetarian meal, with tea and coffee making facilities. Porcelain for large vessels requires additional time and attention, therefore participants will learn how to prepare the clay for best results, and learn throwing techniques directly alongside Mr. Moon. At the end of the workshop, students can decide if they would like to keep any of the work they made. You are welcome to leave your pieces at my studio to be fired, additional fees will be charged per kilo. Workshop Includes: Clay, we will provide basic communal tools but you’re totally welcome to bring your own. Snacks, coffee, and tea throughout the day plus a simple vegetarian meal. To attend this workshop it is ideal you are comfortable centering 3 kilos of clay to get the most from the experience. Please note that all events will be spoken in Korean and translated into English by a translator on the day.
